Rindge Avenue is a residential street in the Playa del Rey neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. It runs roughly parallel to the coast, from the intersection with Vista Del Mar Lane and Fowling Street to Napoleon Street. At one time, Rindge Avenue continued further south, into the Surfridge neighborhood. In the mid-1960s, the city of Los Angeles used its powers of eminent domain to acquire the Surfridge neighborhood, in order to expand the buffer zone around Los Angeles International Airport, or LAX. It then demolished the homes along the southernmost stretch of the street, which is now closed to traffic.

Our Rindge Avenue sign is a replica done in the classic Los Angeles “shotgun” style. This type of sign, in use between 1946 and 1967, was painted by hand in porcelain enamel. The road name appears on top in large block-font lettering, with the block number in smaller text beneath it, both in white on a blue background. The sign panel is cut to the contours of the two lines of text, creating the distinct “shotgun” shape. Our Rindge Avenue sign has a block number of 9200 S. This was the block number at the intersection with Jacquelin Street, in the demolished Surfridge neighborhood.

Its glossy, non-reflective finish matches the porcelain originals, and allows it to stand up to the elements when installed outdoors. Pre-drilled holes are included to make installation easy.
