Jerome, Arizona, is a small town in Yavapai County, along State Route 89A between Sedona and Prescott. Like many towns in the West, it had its origins in a small mining camp; mining claims were first filed in the area in 1876, and the United Verde Copper Company formed in 1883. By 1899, the camp had grown into a small, thriving town, and was incorporated that year. The mines in the Jerome area grew to be some of the largest in the world. Not only did Jerome have some of the richest copper deposits ever discovered, but gold, silver, lead, and zinc were also found nearby. The population peaked in the 1930 census, with 4,932 residents recorded. However, life in a small mining town wasn’t for everyone. A New York newspaper christened it “the wickedest town in the West” due to the prevalence of prostitution, gambling, and booze.

The fortunes of a mining town are tied to the fortunes of its mines, and when the ore ran out in the 1950s, Jerome’s fate was sealed. Its population crashed to only 243 people by 1960. However, those that remained were determined to keep their town alive, and turned to tourism. The town was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1967. In the present day, Jerome contains plenty for history buffs to see, as well as hotels, restaurants, shopping, and most any other establishment a visitor might need during their stay.

Our Entering Jerome sign is an exact replica of the signs posted along SR 89A as you approach the town. It’s made according to the 2016 Arizona Department of Transportation I3-101 standards for city limit signs, adjusted to match the signs as they appear in Jerome. Every detail of the layout is just like that of the original sign, as are the fonts used. It’s the closest you can get to taking a piece of Jerome home with you, but without chancing a run-in with the sheriff!

Our Entering Jerome sign is flat printed on heavy-duty 14-gauge steel. Its durable finish makes it able to withstand the outdoor elements, even the Arizona sun. And it’s non-reflective, allowing it to make a great addition to the decor of an indoor space. For easy installation, we’ve included pre-drilled mounting holes. Choose from the following sizes:
