Description
Mexico’s Highway 1 stretches the entire length of the Baja California peninsula, earning it the name of la Carretera Transpeninsular. This highway extends from Cabo San Lucas, at the peninsula’s southern tip, to Tijuana, where it ends at the US border. It has a total length of 1,623 km (1,008 mi). In Tijuana, the Mexican authorities will occasionally install a sign giving the distance to Cabo San Lucas at the other end of the highway. (There’s also sometimes a matching Tijuana sign in Cabo San Lucas.) The idea is to impress the tourists with the great distance the highway covers. The tourists are indeed often impressed—so much so that the sign will invariably go missing!
We’ve made our Cabo San Lucas 1623 km sign following the exact standards as used since 1986 along Mexico’s federal highways. If there happens to be a sign up in Tijuana at the moment, ours is just like it! We’ve made sure that the layout, fonts, and shield design precisely match the original. You can have a copy of this famous sign—without the chance of a run-in with los federales!—with our faithful replica.
Our Cabo San Lucas 1623 km sign is flat printed on heavy 14-gauge steel. With a high-gloss, non-reflective coating, it will look great for years to come, indoors or outdoors. Not even the bright Mexican sun will be able to damage it! Convenient mounting holes are included for easy installation. We have two sizes of this sign available:
- the original 1200 mm × 200 mm size (roughly equivalent to 47.244 in. × 7.874 in.)
- a scaled-down 30 in. × 5 in. version
This sign is fully customizable! We can swap out the route number, the city name, or the distance…or all three! We can also make this sign in a size other than the two listed here. But that’s not all we can do! Just about any road sign from just about anywhere in the world is in our wheelhouse. Don’t see it on our site?
