California (CSAA) 17 Mile Drive, Pebble Beach directional sign

In the early 1900s, before state highway departments existed, the California State Automobile Association (CSAA), a private auto club, guided drivers with their distinctive signage stretching from Northern California to central Kansas. CSAA’s signage from the late 1910s and early 1920s combined the club’s signature rhombus shape with California’s state colors of blue and gold. The association logo appeared at the bottom corner of the sign, with its name written out in the left and right corners.

Step back into the golden age of motoring with this beautifully-crafted replica of the CSAA sign for 17 Mile Drive and Pebble Beach—a faithful tribute to the earliest days of American road travel.  The original sign (seen in the attached 1923 photo) was located just outside of Pebble Beach, the famous residential and resort community on the Monterey Peninsula, at 17 Mile Drive, the main road through town. This piece perfectly recreates the look and feel of the vintage signs that once lined the highways of Northern California.
