Key West is the southernmost point on Florida’s highway system. It is accessible by US Route 1, also known as the Overseas Highway. The highway crosses from mainland Florida onto Key Largo to start its journey through the Florida Keys. From there, the Overseas Highway alternates between passing through the towns and rural preserves on the keys themselves and miles-long bridges over the ocean channels between them. After just over 100 miles (161 km), motorists will finally reach Mile 0, the end of US-1 in Key West. And from there, there’s only one way to leave Key West by road—driving back north on the Overseas Highway.

Our US-1 Key West sign is made according to the standards for exit signs found in the American Association of State Highway Officials’ 1961 Manual for Signing and Pavement Marking of the National System of Interstate and Defense Highways. These standards were among the first American standards ever developed for freeway exit signs. The US 1 shield is red, reflecting Florida’s practice for many years of color-coding US highway shields by route number. It’s a great throwback to the early days of the freeway era in south Florida.

Our US 1 Key West sign is flat printed on heavy-duty steel. It is made with a glossy, non-reflective finish that protects it against the elements when installed outdoors.
