Description
Visitors to Hawaii are often surprised by the existence of Interstate highways on the island of Oahu. Given that the state of Hawaii is far off the coast of the mainland United States, it seems like a strange place for highways whose name implies they cross state lines! However, it is the Interstate System itself that is meant to be interstate, not any individual highway in it. Therefore, Hawaii having Interstates is no problem at all. Just to prevent any confusion, though, Hawaiian Interstates are given numbers with an H- prefix. Interstate H-1 is the longest of Hawaii’s Interstates, running along the south coast of Oahu, connecting Honolulu to its suburbs.
Our Interstate H-1 signs are made according to the exact 1957 standard for Interstate highway signs. We offer two variants of the sign: the original style reading “H-1” with the hyphen that is officially part of the highway’s name, as well as the later version that removed the hyphen for improved legibility. (Later, the word “Hawaii” was removed from the sign as well so that the numbers could be increased in size.) It’s a great way to commemorate the time you’ve spent in Honolulu, whether you’re a visitor or a local!
Our Interstate H-1 sign is flat printed on heavy 14-gauge steel. The sign is non-reflective, making it an ideal display piece for any room in the house. It’s also durable enough to be installed outdoors, even in the Hawaiian rain. Displaying it is easy thanks to the pre-drilled mounting holes. It is available in the following sizes:
- 12 in. × 12 in. (for decorators with limited space or budget)
- 18 in. × 18 in. (the size used in certain low-speed contexts in the early years of the Interstate System)
- 24 in. × 24 in. (the size of most Interstate markers today)
- 36 in. × 36 in. (the size used in high-speed applications, along the freeway itself, and where extra visibility is needed)
We can make a sign like this for any Interstate highway, in Hawaii or on the mainland! We can also make state route markers from Hawaii or any other state, or US route markers from the mainland. Not only that, but we can make directional signs, freeway exit signs, welcome signs, and more. Just contact Jake to place a custom order if you can’t find the sign you want on our website!
