Jacquelin Street was a residential street in the Playa Del Rey neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. It was a short street, only about 750 feet (225 m) long, located within walking distance of the Pacific Ocean. The street was in a section of Playa Del Rey known as Surfridge, which was developed in the early 1920s. Many of the homes in the area were owned by Hollywood actors and producers, who used them as beachfront getaways. Unfortunately, Surfridge was located immediately adjacent to what was then known as Mines Field, which later developed into Los Angeles International Airport, or LAX. By the 1960s, the city desired additional buffer space around LAX, and used its powers of eminent domain to acquire the property along Jacquelin Street, which was just feet away from LAX’s Taxiway B. The homes were demolished, and today Jacquelin Street is a crumbling piece of concrete surrounded by vacant, fenced off land.

Our Jacquelin Street street sign is made in the classic Los Angeles “shotgun” style. This city used this style of sign from 1946 to 1967. They are called the “shotgun” style due to their shape; the sign is contoured around the street name and the block number beneath it, both of which appear in white block lettering on a blue background. The sign bears the block number of 200 E., which indicates the intersection with Rindge Avenue.

Our Jacquelin Street shotgun sign is printed on heavy 14-gauge steel. It closely resembles the porcelain enamel the original porcelain enamel signs thanks to its glossy, non-reflective finish. • 30 in. × 10 in. size (the size of the original signs as posted in Los Angeles)
