Description
Massachusetts Route 128 is the inner beltway around the Boston area. It was originally designated along surface streets in the area in 1927. Eventually, it was upgraded to a freeway. When the Interstate System was established, Interstate 95 was planned to pass through downtown Boston. However, local opposition resulted in its cancellation. To connect I-95 through the Boston area, I-95 was instead rerouted along Route 128. Nonetheless, Boston locals still generally refer to the road as Route 128, which often confuses out-of-towners expecting the road to be called I-95.
Our Massachusetts Route 128 sign is made to the exact state standards used from 1949 through the mid-1960s. Every detail is just like the original, including the custom font that was only ever used in Massachusetts. A few examples of this style of sign still exist here and there on the back roads, but the majority of them have long since disappeared. Now you can own one yourself without breaking the bank for an original.
Our Massachusetts Route 128 sign is flat printed right here in America on heavy 14-gauge steel. It is non-reflective, with a glossy, weather-resistant coating that allows it to serve you well as an excellent display piece, indoors or outdoors, for years to come. We’ve even included mounting holes to make installation as easy as possible. Take your pick from the following sizes:
- 12 in. × 12 in.
- 16 in. × 16 in.
- 24 in. × 24 in.
- 36 in. × 36 in.
