The Empire State Trail is a 750-mile system of biking and walking trails connecting the major cities of the state of New York. It consists of three trails: the Hudson Valley Greenway Trail, which connects New York City to Albany by way of Poughkeepsie; the Champlain Valley Trail, which continues north from Albany to the Canadian border; and the Erie Canalway Trail, which connects the two north-south trails to Buffalo via Utica, Syracuse, and Rochester. The Empire State Trail system was established in 2017, and is signed with circular blue-and-yellow marker showing the trails on a map of New York. As a result, it bears a close resemblance to the marker of the New York State Thruway, which serves many of the same areas.
