Ranch to Market Road 12 is a highway in Hays County, Texas, with a small section extending into western Travis County. It connects San Marcos  to Dripping Springs, before ending at FM 3238 west of Bee Cave. RM 12 is the lowest-numbered Ranch to Market Road; it is among the many such highways crisscrossing Texas. Together with the more familiar Farm to Market roads found throughout the state, the Ranch to Market roads serve as secondary highways connecting rural properties to the main trunk highways, and thus to the larger towns and cities. The FM and RM signs share the same design, in use since 1965, of a white map of Texas containing the number on a black background. (Previous issues used a white background.) These iconic route markers are instantly recognizable to anyone who has spent time on the Texas highway system.
