Description
The Suwannee River has its origins in the Okefenokee Swamp of southern Georgia. From there, it flows southwest to the Gulf of Mexico, separating the Florida Panhandle from the peninsula forming the rest of the state. The river is best known for its appearance in song, most notably Stephen Foster’s “Old Folks at Home”, Florida’s state song. The Suwannee River is so closely associated with the song that the first two measures of “Old Folks at Home” is written out on the signage posted along the state’s highways where they cross the river!
We’ve recreated one of Florida’s Historic Suwannee River signs for your enjoyment. Our sign is made using the same FHWA Series fonts used to create the original. Beneath that are the same two measures of “Old Folks at Home” that appear on the original signs. It’s a great way to show your love of Florida’s history and the Suwannee River region!
Our Historic Suwannee River sign is printed here in the United States on heavy 14-gauge steel. It is a non-reflective sign, making it an ideal home decor item. Its high-gloss finish makes it durable enough to be displayed outside, even in a humid and rainy environment like Florida. No matter where you choose to put it, the included mounting holes will make installation easy. The original freeway-style sign with this design is nearly twenty feet wide, but we’ve scaled our replica down to the following more manageable sizes:
- 14 in. × 7 in.
- 16 in. × 8 in.
- 24 in. × 12 in.
- 36 in. × 18 in.
- 48 in. × 24 in.
- 72 in. × 36 in.
We can make just about any road sign, from Florida or elsewhere! Whether it’s a river crossing sign, a directional sign, a route marker, a welcome sign, or something else, we’d be happy to help! Want a sign that you don’t see on our site? Just place a custom order! Contact us today to get started!
