The resort city of Cape May sits at the southernmost tip of New Jersey. It is also the southernmost destination on the Garden State Parkway, New Jersey’s north–south toll road. The toll road starts at Exit 0, so named because American exit numbers are based on the mileage from a road’s beginning. Exit 0 is not a true interchange, but instead an intersection controlled by a traffic signal, with a few ramps to reduce conflicting traffic. From Exit 0, a traveler may turn west along Route 109 to US Route 9 and the community of North Cape May, where the terminal of the Cape May–Lewes Ferry is located. If they choose not to exit, they can continue south on Route 109 from the end of the Garden State Parkway into the city of Cape May proper.
