Vermont Route 100 is the longest road in the state. It runs almost the entire length of the state, from the state line at Clarksburg, Massachusetts all the way to the Town of Newport, just six miles (9.6 km) away from Canada. Route 100 is also among the most scenic roads in the state of Vermont. In south-central Vermont, it runs along the edge of the Green Mountains . However, the road is most popular in the cooler months. In the autumn, it’s well known as a place to see beautiful fall foliage. Along Route 100, you’ll also find several resort towns that fill up with skiers in the winter months. Despite that, the road runs through pretty sparsely populated territory. The biggest town you’ll find along it is Morrisville, which only has a population of about 5400.
