Buchanan Street is a north-south street in San Francisco, running from Market Street to the Marina District. It is broken up into five segments, the longest of which runs from Sutter Street up through Moscone Park, where it tees out at Chestnut Street. One might assume that the street is named after President James Buchanan, especially because of the presence of nearby Fillmore Street, which was named after one of his predecessors. However, the name predates Buchanan’s term as President; the street is actually named in honor of John C. Buchanan, a San Francisco politician, businessman, and auctioneer.

Our Buchanan Street sign is the perfect way to celebrate this historic San Francisco street. This classic style still often seen on the city’s streets, featuring black all-caps lettering in the standard road sign fonts on a white background. A tab above the street name shows the number 100,  signifying the intersection with Hermann Street, just north of Market.
