Although most of Rhode Island, America’s smallest state, is not actually an island, the state’s image is still tied very heavily to the sea. In fact, the state’s official nickname is The Ocean State. Signs located at every road entrance to Rhode Island in the 1980s prominently showed this nickname, along with the image of a sailboat on the ocean waves.

We’ve brought the classic Rhode island sailboat welcome sign back to life for your enjoyment. Our replica of this sign uses is precisely recreated from photos of original signage in the field. Every detail is just like the original, fonts, graphics, layout, and all! It’s just like having the real thing, but without the hassle of tracking one down and figuring out how to fit it in your house. We’ve listed Roger Williams as the governor on the sample sign, but we’re happy to substitute the name of any governor. We can even put the name of you, your friends, or your pets as the governor—or completely remove that line altogether. The choice is up to you!
