Brannan Street in San Francisco begins at an intersection with Division Street and Potrero Avenue, underneath the interchange between US Route 101 and Interstate 80 that serves as the latter’s western endpoint. From there, it runs northeast,  paralleling both Interstate 80 and King Street, before ending at the Embarcadero. Brannan Street is named after Samuel Brannan, founder of the city’s first newspaper, the California Star.

Our Brannan Street sign is a faithful replica made according to the 1965 specification of San Francisco street signs. This is the familiar style with the street name set in all caps, in black on a white background. Although signs of this design are still seen all over the city, it was discontinued in 2009, when mixed-case signage became the standard. The 1965 standards, the last to use all capital letters, were used until 2009, when they were switched to mixed case. Just like the original, our sign uses the standard FHWA Series fonts found on most signs in the United States. The block number 500, signifying the intersection with 4th Street, appears in a tab above the street name.

Our Brannan Street sign is flat printed on 14-gauge steel. It can be installed either indoors or outdoors, thanks to the durability of its glossy, non-reflective coating. You can choose between a one-sided sign, perfect for hanging against a wall, or a sign that’s two-sided, as the originals are. Both versions come with pre-drilled mounting holes to make installation easy. You can also choose from three different sizes:

• 21 in. × 7 in.
• 30 in. × 10 in.
• 36 in. × 12 in. (the actual size of signs posted by the city of San Francisco)
