When jazz music was still in its infancy, the people who knew how to enjoy life flocked to the crossroads of 18th and Vine streets in Kansas City, Missouri. Charlie Parker and many other notable Kansas City jazz musicians embarked on a life-long career in the bars and clubs here, even if they hailed from other areas of the world. Even musicians with other regular gigs spent their nights in this district enjoying life and weaving together the distinctive Kansas City sound that blends blues influences with complex riffs and a heavy emphasis on improvisation. The jazz that developed from the night life at this historic intersection not only launched careers and brought people together, it also bridged the styles of big band music and bebop. As one of the most influential areas in the United States for both the history of jazz music and African American culture in the country, Kansas City’s 18th and Vine district earned its place in the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
Commemorate the fun, history, and amazing music you’ve enjoyed with our replicas of the signs that give the district its name! We have recreated the signs of both streets to the exact standard used in the 1930s, when 18th and Vine hosted some of the most influential pioneers of the jazz music scene. It features a black background and yellow text, and would be an excellent display piece for anyone’s man cave, garage, bar, studio, or any place you and your loved ones hang out and enjoy your favorite music.
