Description
Mission San Juan Capistrano is a Spanish mission in Orange County, California. St. Junípero Serra established the mission in 1776 to help establish Spanish control over the region, which was then known as Alta California. The mission served as the focal point of a settlement that became what is now the city of San Juan Capistrano. Today, the mission functions as a museum, and has been designated as California Historical Landmark No. 200.
Our Mission San Juan Capistrano sign is an exact replica of the signage that once pointed the way to the mission. In the late 1940s, city and county governments in California often contracted with the Automobile Club of Southern California (ACSC) to provide signage directing travelers to local points of interest. Our sign is made to the exact 1947 ACSC standards for this type of sign, including the club’s logo at the bottom center of the sign. Caltrans still uses this design, with minor changes, to the present day.
Our Mission San Juan Capistrano sign is flat printed in the United States on heavy 14-gauge steel. It has a glossy, durable, non-retroreflective finish highly resembling the porcelain enamel used by ACSC in the mid-20th century. This finish also protects the sign from the elements to allow it to stand the test of time when installed outdoors, even in sunny Southern California. Mounting holes are included to make installation easy. We’ve made it available in the following sizes:
