San Gorgonio Peak is the highest mountain in Southern California. It rises to a height of 11,485 feet (3,500 meters), about 27 miles (43.5 km) east of the city of San Bernardino. San Gorgonio Peak is unusually easy to see from a distance; it has been photographed from as far away as Mount Whitney, 190 miles to the north. This is said to be the longest distance ever photographed in the lower 48 states.
Despite its height, it is not terribly difficult to reach the summit of San Gorgonio Peak. It is just the matter of taking a strenuous, though non-technical, hike. Accordingly, the U.S. Forest Service has installed signage guiding hikers along the route to the summit, so they won’t get lost and possibly eaten by bears. One such sign is present at the summit itself to inform hikers they have reached their destination.
We’ve recreated the sign that could be found at the summit of San Gorgonio Peak one hundred years ago. Our replica of this sign is made to the exact standards used by the U.S. Forest Service from the 1910s to the 1930s. The sign displays the logo of the Forest Service, along with the name of the peak and the elevation in the block font typical to the era. The original of this guide sign is feared to be lost to history; only historic photos of it are known. We’ve brought it back to life so you can show your love for this noted mountain peak. Add our replica to your garage, den, man cave, or any other room needing a little bit of mountain flavor.
Like all of our replicas, this one is flat printed on heavy, 14-gauge steel. Just like the original, it can withstand the elements outdoors. Its glossy, non-reflective finish is equally at home indoors as well. Our faithful remake has been made to the original size of 36 × 7 inches. We also offer a scaled-down 25¾ × 5 inch size, for installation where space is at a premium. Both versions include two mounting holes, for your convenience.
