Louisiana Highway 5 is a state highway in northwest Louisiana’s De Soto Parish. It begins at US Route 84 in Logansport, just east of the Texas state line. It follows a roughly L-shaped path, heading northeast to the small town of Keatchie, then turning east to end at LA 175 at Kingston. The route serves several small communities along its 28-mile (46-km) path, including Longstreet and Gloster, offering a rural connector through the region. LA 5 is primarily a two-lane highway, and plays an important role in local travel and access to regional highways.

Our Louisiana Highway 5 marker is made according to the state standards in use around 1961. This design, with the green Louisiana state outline on a white background, was gradually refined over the years. It started out with a simple, highly-stylized rendition of the state map. As sign-making technology progressed, it got more and more detailed, until 2008, when the sign was changed to a black-and-white color scheme in the name of saving money.  Our replica is a faithful rendition of the earlier, simpler route signs, complete with the narrow Series B font that allows Louisiana to squeeze as many as five digits onto the sign.
