Highland Avenue is a street in Manhattan Beach, a city in the South Bay region of Los Angeles County. It is the southern continuation of Los Angeles’s Vista Del Mar, and extends for just over 2 miles (3.5 km) before ending at a T intersection at Longfellow Avenue. Signage for Highland Avenue is, like that for most streets in Manhattan Beach, in the shape of a blue rectangle with an off-center tab on the top. The words “Manhattan Beach”, along with a sun and sand logo, appear in the tab. Rather than the standard highway sign fonts, the text uses an ornamental incised-serif font. This design has been in use for many years, long enough that early versions of it were painted onto the sign in porcelain enamel.
