Description
The Grand Street Bridge is a truss bridge crossing Newtown Creek in New York City, connecting Brooklyn and Queens. It is a steel truss bridge, built to be able to swing open to allow large ships to pass underneath, although this happens only once every three days or so, due to declining ship traffic on Newtown Creek. The bridge is 230 feet long, with two lanes, and opened to traffic in 1902.
Our Grand Street Bridge sign is an exact replica of the old, weathered sign attached to the bridge’s steel truss superstructure. It uses the same FHWA Series D font as the original sign. It also accurately depicts the pictogram of a suspension bridge, which is a totally different type of bridge than the one the sign is bolted to. The original sign is extremely faded and difficult to read. Even if it wasn’t, though, there is only one known to exist, and it’s way up high on top of the bridge. With our faithful replica, you avoid the need to figure out how the heck you would get it down from there, anyway.
Our Grand Street Bridge sign is printed on heavy 14-gauge steel. It has a glossy, non-retroreflective finish; its durability makes it an excellent display piece, indoors or outdoors. (In fact, even installed outside, it will probably last longer than the original sign has!) Mounting holes have been provided to make installation easy. We’ve made it available in the following sizes:
- 12 in. × 12 in.
- 18 in. × 18 in.
- 24 in. × 24 in.
- 36 in. × 36 in.
