New York’s Interstate 495 is one of five with that number (three-digit Interstate numbers may be reused between states). It is also known as the Long Island Expressway or the LIE. It traverses 71 miles (114 km) of Long Island, from the western portal of the Queens-Midtown Tunnel in Manhattan to Riverhead at the east end of the island.

As an incredibly busy highway, Interstate 495 has also earned the nickname of “world’s longest parking lot” from the locals. If you happen to find yourself as a part of this “parking lot”, though, there are at least some beautiful sights along the side of the road, as it is heavily lined with trees along the way. The “Queens Giant”, the oldest and tallest tree in the New York metropolitan area, is also visible from the westbound lanes, as it lives in Alley Pond Park in Queens.
