As Russian forces began streaming into Ukraine in February 2022, it soon became clear that the enemy was not well versed on the finer points of Ukrainian geography. Ukravtodor (the Ukrainian highway department) did its part to hamper the enemy by ordering the removal of all guide signs throughout the country. It announced this initiative on Facebook on February 26.
The message was accompanied by a photo of a Ukrainian sign that had been digitally altered to show a new message. On the top row, the sign reads НА ХУЙ (“fuck off”). Below that is the text ЗНОВ НА ХУЙ (“again, fuck off”). The final line of text reads ДО РОСІЇ НА ХУЙ (“fuck off back to Russia”). “Let’s help them get straight to hell,” Ukravtodor says. The Ukrainian message then switches to Russian for its final sign-off: “FUCK YOU”, in all caps.
We’ve brought Ukravtodor’s edited sign to life for your enjoyment. Proceeds go to UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund), to be specially earmarked for Ukraine relief efforts. Demonstrate your opposition to history’s latest tinpot war criminal, comply with the Geneva Convention of 1949 on the topic of standardized traffic control devices, and help children all at once!
The United States Fund for UNICEF (aka UNICEF USA) is a 501(c)3 registered non-profit in the United States—tax ID number 13-1760110. Part of your purchase qualifies as a charitable donation; all buyers will receive a receipt for the donated amount. (Please check with your accountant how to handle this on your taxes.)
Our recreation of this sign is printed on heavy 14-gauge steel. It uses the standard Ukrainian signage fonts in use as of 2021. (Whichever Ukravtodor staffer created the original image understandably had more pressing concerns than use of standard fonts.) We offer it in sizes from 16 in. × 8 in. all the way up to 72 in. × 36 in. All versions contain mounting holes for your convenience. It is a non-reflective sign—perfect for ordinary display, indoors or outdoors. (Want this sign in a size not shown here? Contact Jake to place a custom order.)
