The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Standard Highway Signs book has a number of signs notifying travelers of the various means the Virginia State Police uses to enforce speed restrictions on the commonwealth’s highways. These signs have a special white-on-black color scheme. One particular sign, number R0-V7, warns motorists of Virginia State Police aircraft patrolling the skies above Virginia’s Interstate highways. These aircraft are equipped with special Visual Average Speed Computer and Monitor (VASCAR) equipment. This equipment uses special markings painted onto the pavement to calculate the speed of vehicles passing by underneath. Should VASCAR indicate an unlawful driver, the aerial police officer then relays the information to ground-based officers, allowing them to intercept. R0-V7 signs, reading “Speed Limit Enforced By Aircraft”, are only installed along Interstates. These signs are a colossal seven and a half feet wide, for easy reading at freeway speeds.
We’ve recreated Virginia’s distinctive Speed Limit Enforced By Aircraft signs, for your enjoyment at home. Relive past travels on Virginia highways or show your appreciation for the aviation community or Virginia’s law enforcement officers with this sign. Our replica has been precisely made according to the official 2011 VDOT R0-V7 specifications. It’s the closest thing you’ll get to the real thing without actually stuffing one in your trunk—which is a horrible idea, since the signs are, you know, watched from above from police aircraft.
Our replica Speed Limit Enforced By Aircraft sign is flat printed on heavy 14-gauge steel. Its glossy, non-reflective finish makes it a great addition to any bar, garage, or man cave; it can also stand up to the elements outdoors, just like the original. We’ve made it available in six sizes, from the conveniently scaled-down 15 in. × 9 in. all the way up to the massive 90 in. × 54 in. original size. Each size includes two mounting holes for your convenience. (Looking for another sign, from Virginia or elsewhere? We’re happy to help make any sign you might desire!
