The Dutch Caribbean island of Sint Maarten doesn’t really have a whole lot of room to spare. That means that its main airport, Princess Juliana International Airport, is right on the island’s coast. Close enough, in fact, that the landing pattern for the airport passes very low over Maho Beach. It is one of the few places where a person can get such an up-close view of a passenger jet in flight. This makes it a spot where aviation enthusiasts tend to congregate. However, the planes are so low that the beach is within range of the blast from the planes’ jet engines. The rapid flow of air from a jet engine is so strong it can blow a person away. Thus, signage around the beach warns onlookers of the dangers jet blasts pose. Nevertheless, beachgoers occasionally sustain injuries, or even die, when the rushing winds blow them to the ground, against solid objects, or into the sea.
We’ve recreated the Danger Jet Blast signs found on Maho Beach so you can enjoy them at home. It’s a great way to commemorate a trip to Sint Maarten, or just to decorate your hangar, garage, bathroom, or any other appropriate space! We made our replica using photos of the original sign. It includes an accurate rendition of the original sign’s image of a man being thrown backward by a gust of wind from a plane. As you can imagine, signs like this more or less only appear on Maho Beach. That means they almost never turn up on the collector’s market. Our replica lets you enjoy this sign without making the long flight to Sint Maarten!
Our Danger Jet Blast sign is printed on heavy 14-gauge steel. Its durable high-gloss coating will last for years indoors or outdoors. We offer this sign to you in five different sizes. Take your pick of any of them, from 16 in. × 8 in. all the way up to our mammoth 72 in. × 36 in. size. Two mounting holes are drilled into the sign for convenient installation.
