Description
The Pony Express is one of the most recognized parts of Old West lore, despite the fact that it operated for less than two years, from April 1860 to October 1861. It ran from St. Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, California, following a route connecting 190 stations spaced between 5 and 25 miles (8 and 40 km) apart. A rider would carry the mail, in all weather, day or night, from one station to the next. At each station, they would swap to a fresh pony before continuing onward, only being relieved by a fresh rider themselves after traveling about 75 miles. The Pony Express was able to get mail between the East and California in as little as a week, an incredible achievement by the standards of the day. Of course, such fast service came at a price: a Pony Express stamp cost 250 times that of the standard U.S. Mail. In 1861, the first transcontinental telegraph line was connected, making it possible to send an important message in seconds. The Pony Express instantly became obsolete, and shut down shortly thereafter, never having turned a profit.
Our Nevada Pony Express sign is faithfully recreated to match the original design commissioned by the State of Nevada in 1936 for the 75th anniversary of the Pony Express. Originally installed along highways tracing the historic Pony Express route, these distinctive signs celebrated one of the most legendary chapters in American history. Now you can own a striking reproduction that captures the look and character of these historic roadside markers at a fraction of the cost of an original.
Our Nevada Pony Express sign is available with two different background options. Choose the classic white background for a traditional appearance or make a bold statement with our unique sunset-color background. Whether you collect Western memorabilia, decorate a home, furnish a business, or create a standout display, this Nevada Pony Express sign delivers exceptional visual appeal and impressive attention to detail. We craft every sign from heavy 14-gauge steel and finish it with a brilliant gloss that protects it from the elements and recreates the appearance of old-school porcelain enamel. Unlike inexpensive, lightweight tin signs with incorrect fonts, proportions, layouts, or dimensions, our signs prioritize quality, accuracy, and craftsmanship. Every detail matters, from the overall shape and lettering to the finish that gives this sign its distinctive vintage look. Even the most discerning sign collector will appreciate the attention to detail up close.
Find the perfect fit for your space with four available sizes: the 14-inch diameter of the original signs, a compact 12-inch version, or larger 24-inch and 36-inch display pieces. Choose the size and background color that best complement your collection, garage, office, retail space, man cave, or Western-themed decor.
