Description
The Walt Whitman Bridge is a suspension bridge carrying Interstate 76 across the Delaware River. It connects Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Gloucester City, New Jersey. The bridge is named in honor of Walt Whitman, the famous poet who lived in nearby Camden, New Jersey. In the run-up to the American bicentennial in 1976, the Delaware River Port Authority posted signs pointing to the bridges in the area. Each of them had the silhouette of a bird pointing in the direction of the bridge. The bird was in a different color for each bridge, with the Walt Whitman Bridge using green. Near its tail was a special “76” bicentennial logo.
Our Walt Whitman Bridge sign is a precise replica of the signs posted to point the way toward the bridge during the bicentennial era. We have used photographs of the few remaining signs to ensure that the bird silhouette, the shape of the sign, and the layout of the text all match the originals. Step back in time to the mid-1970s with this attractive display piece.
Our Walt Whitman Bridge sign is printed on heavy 14-gauge American steel. It has a glossy, non-retroreflective finish that protects it from the elements when installed outdoors. Mounting holes are included to ease installation. We offer the sign in three configurations: right-facing, left-facing, and double-sided. Choose from the following sizes:
- 18 in. × 7½ in.
- 24 in. × 10 in.
- 36 in. × 15 in.
- 48 in. × 20 in.
