On the west side of Bloomington, Illinois, is a stretch of freeway carrying Interstate routes 55 and 74, as well as US Route 51. As you leave town to the south, the highway splits. Interstate 55 continues south toward St. Louis, Missouri, as well as Springfield (the one in Illinois first, but one can continue on from St. Louis to reach the one in Missouri). Interstate 74 and US 51 turn east to pass through the south side of Bloomington en route to Decatur, Illinois (along US 51) and Indianapolis, Indiana (along I-74). As you approach the fork in the road, large overhead signs provide a diagram of a splitting arrow to show which lanes head to which destination.
