Description
If you ever climb Mount Whitney, the highest point in the lower 48 states, this is the sign that will greet you at the top. Installed by the National Park Service, it lists the precise elevation to a thousandth of a foot. The sign reads “This tablet marks the construction of the highest trail in the United States. Begun in 1928, it was completed in 1930 under the direction of the National Park Service working with the United States Forest Service.” The summit is the southern terminus of the John Muir Trail, a hiking trail whose other end is 211 miles (340 km) away, in Yosemite.
The original sign, is, of course, one of a kind. It isn’t going to end up on the collector’s market anytime soon. That’s why we’ve recreated it for your enjoyment at home. Our Mount Whitney summit sign is an exact duplicate of the original, using the same fonts and layout. It’s printed on 14-gauge steel with a high-gloss coating that accurately replicates the old-school porcelain look of the original. This sign is a great way to celebrate the achievement of summiting Mount Whitney, or simply show your appreciation for California’s wild lands. It would be difficult and dangerous to get the original down the mountain, and you’re likely to attract the attention of park rangers should you attempt it anyway. Avoid the risk of both grievous bodily harm and legal consequences with our faithful replica.
Our Mount Whitney summit sign is made to the highest standards of quality right here in the United States. We offer this sign in the same size as the original sign, 24 in. × 18 in.. We also offer two scaled-down sizes and one scaled up, to meet your design and budgetary needs. All of them include pre-drilled mounting holes for your convenience. (Looking for a sign like this for another mountain? Or other National Park signage? Or even something totally different? We’d be happy to help! Just contact Jake to get started on your custom order.)
