California (CSAA) US Route 40 highway marker sign

Price range: $89.00 through $359.00

Description

When the United States Numbered Highway System was established in 1926, the designation of US Route 40 was assigned to the Lincoln Highway through California. US 40 entered the state near Reno, Nevada, crossing the main crest of the Sierra at Donner Pass. From there, the highway served the state capital, Sacramento, before reaching San Francisco, where it ended at US Route 101. When the Interstate System was established, US 40 was upgraded to a freeway, becoming Interstate 80. While the US 40 designation still exists, it is no longer used in California; the western end of US 40 is now outside of Salt Lake City.

Celebrate the golden age of American highways with our California US Route 40 sign, a meticulously-crafted reproduction of the very first US 40 marker installed in California between 1928 and 1934. This classic design features the distinctive yellow California State Auto Association emblem, a detail found only on the earliest signs produced during those first six years. Original examples rarely appear for sale and can command prices in the thousands, making this California US Route 40 sign the perfect way to own a remarkable piece of highway history without the premium price. Don’t settle for inferior reproductions. We make our signs with careful attention to the original design, including the correct fonts, layout, size, shape, and historic details. Every sign delivers the quality collectors expect, creating a display piece that looks impressive from across the room and stands up to close inspection.
