Description

Cajon Pass is a major mountain pass in Southern California. It separates the San Gabriel Mountains from the San Bernardino Mountains, as well as the Mojave Desert to the north of the mountains from the Inland Empire to the south. Cajon Pass is also a critical link in the region’s transportation network. It’s the primary gateway into Southern California from the northeast, as well is the main route from Southern California up to Las Vegas. Cajon Pass was US Route 66’s route over the mountains, with US 395 and US 91 also being added to the pass over the years. In the 1950s, a new freeway bypass of the original road over the pass was built, which became part of Interstate 15.

Our Cajon Pass summit sign is an exact replica of one that was posted by the Automobile Club of Southern California (ACSC) at the top of the pass. It marked the pass’s summit, at an elevation of 4,301 feet. It follows the standards ACSC used for its highway signage from about 1929 to 1934. The original sign stood on Cajon Pass for many years, but it has long since disappeared; if somehow it does still exist somewhere, it would easily sell for thousands of dollars. Our Cajon Pass sign makes for an excellent display piece, but without the difficulty and expense of tracking down the original.

Our Cajon Pass summit sign is flat printed on heavy 14 gauge steel. It has a high-gloss finish that is a close match to the porcelain enamel of the original. It also allows the sign to be just as durable as the original porcelain, allowing it to serve for years even when installed outdoors. To make hanging it up easy, pre-drilled mounting holes are included. It is available in the following sizes:

  • 15 in. × 10 in.
  • 21 in. × 14 in.
  • 30 in. × 20 in. (the size of the original sign)
  • 36 in. × 24 in.
  • 45 in. × 30 in.

We offer a wide range of signage posted in the early automobile era by the Automobile Club of Southern California, as well as that posted in Northern California by the California State Automobile Association. We also offer route markers, directional signs, state and city welcome signs, and more! If you can’t find what you’re looking for on our site, just place a custom order!
