During the 1950s and into the 1960s, roads entering New Hampshire were posted with this simple sign. It read “Welcome to New Hampshire, Please Drive Safely”, with the words “Welcome To” in cursive script and the rest in the standard highway sign fonts. In the upper right of the sign is a silhouette of the Old Man of the Mountain rock formation. It remains an enduring symbol of the state, despite the formation’s collapse in 2003.
We’ve used pictures of original signs in the field to bring the Welcome to New Hampshire, Please Drive Safely state line sign back to life. The Old Man silhouette, the details of the script font, and even the precise layout are all an exact duplicate of the original.
