Description
Oklahoma had one of the longest sections of Historic Route 66, stretching 432 miles (695 km) across the state. Only New Mexico had more mileage of the Mother Road. The section of US 66 between Oklahoma City and Tulsa was one of the first portions of the route to be bypassed, by the Turner Turnpike. Later, the Will Rogers Turnpike bypassed the section of US 66 between Tulsa and the Missouri state line. Other sections of US 66 were upgraded on the spot to Interstate standards. By the 1980s, US 66 had more or less been entirely replaced across the country by Interstate highways. The US 66 designation was retired in 1985. However, much of Oklahoma’s section of highway was still in active use, as it had been bypassed rather than upgraded to Interstate highway. These sections of road became Oklahoma State Highway 66.
Our replica US 66 Historic Route sign is a replica of the signs commemorating the former US highway along its route. The design includes a US 66 shield following the original federal standards for US route signage. Above and below it are the words “HISTORIC ROUTE”. Bring your garage, bar, man cave, or anywhere else back in time to the golden age of American automobilia with this sign!
Our US 66 Historic Route sign is made in the United States on heavy 14-gauge steel. It has a glossy, non-reflective finish, allowing it to blend well with any space’s decor. It’s also durable enough to withstand the elements outdoors, even in Oklahoma (except for the tornadoes)! To make installation easy, we’ve included convenient mounting holes. Select from the following sizes:
- 9.6 in. × 12 in.
- 16 in. × 20 in.
- 24 in. × 30 in.
- 32 in. × 40 in.
We can fully customize any sign in our library, and this is no exception! We can make it with any state name or route number (or a different type of route marker)! Have another road sign in mind, but don’t see it on our site? We can make it happen! To get started on your custom order, just contact us!
