Description

Since Roger Williams founded the colony of Providence Plantations in 1636, the government of what would become Rhode Island has used an anchor as its symbol. The use of an anchor as a symbol was likely inspired by Hebrews 6:18–19: “hope we have as an anchor of the soul”. The symbol remained in use as Rhode Island was officially chartered as an English colony in 1664, as it declared independence in 1776, and as it became a state under the United States Constitution in 1787. It is still in use today, appearing in the state coat of arms and many symbols of Rhode Island government agencies.

Our Rhode Island coat of arms sign depicts the state’s anchor symbol in yellow on a blue background. The distinct shape of the sign is found in many places the anchor is used, including in the seal and flag of the governor. This sign is an excellent addition to any space where you’d like to show your love for the state of Rhode Island!

Our Rhode Island coat of arms sign is printed in the United States on heavy 14-gauge steel. Its glossy finish makes it durable enough to be displayed both indoors and outdoors.
