Description

The Texas Plains Trail is part of the Texas Legacy Trails system, which is made up of ten scenic byways throughout the state. Governor John Connally and the Texas Highway Department created this system in 1968 to promote tourism throughout Texas. To create the trails, they laid out a loop along existing state highways in various regions of Texas. The Texas Historical Commission took the Texas Legacy Trails program a step further in 1998. beyond the routes themselves. Each of the trails became the centerpiece of one of ten tourism districts splitting up the state. The program’s goal is to incentivize tourism by increasing awareness of each district’s unique historical and cultural destinations. The hope is, of course, to increase the amount of money spent by travelers in each district’s less well-known towns.

The Texas Plains Trail is located in the Texas Panhandle, connecting Amarillo and Lubbock via a winding, indirect path. Along the roads making up the Texas Plains Trail, you can find distinctive blue and white signs marking the way. They’re emblazoned with the silhouette of a classic windmill of the type once commonly used on the plains, often to pump water from a well. We’ve used the exact TxDOT specifications, used to create the original signs, to make a faithful replica just like those you’d see on the side of the road. It makes a great addition to any room’s decor—and you don’t have to worry about the Texas Rangers coming after you for having one!

Our Texas Plains Trail sign is flat printed on heavy-duty 14-gauge steel. It has glossy, non-reflective finish, making it rugged enough to withstand the outdoor elements, be they the hot Texas sun or a snowy Panhandle winter. We’ve included mounting holes for easy installation. Choose from the following sizes:

  • 14 in. × 8 in.
  • 21 in. × 12 in.
  • 35 in. × 20 in.
  • 42 in. × 24 in.
  • 63 in. × 36 in. (This Texas-sized sign is so big we’ve got to split it into two pieces to make it easier to move and install!)

For great companion pieces to this sign, be sure to check out our Texas Interstate, US route, and state highway markers as well! We can make city limit, directional, warning, and regulatory signs, too! And we’re not just limited to Texas; we can make road signs from anywhere in the world!
