US Route 112 was a highway designation which was nearly entirely within the state of Michigan. It was one of the original batch of US numbered highways established in 1926, and ran from Detroit westward to Elkhart, Indiana. Later, the route was cut back to end in New Buffalo, Michigan, making it a fully intrastate highway. Beginning in the 1950s, US 112’s parent route, US Route 12, was gradually upgraded to a freeway, which became part of Interstate 94. This made the US 12 designation redundant in Michigan, so to simplify things, US 112 was eliminated in 1962, and US 12 was shifted to replace it.
