Description
Descanso Drive is a residential street in Los Angeles, California. It begins at a stoplight on Sunset Boulevard and winds its way to the west. Because of its location on a hillside, a portion of the street is divided, one lane each way, with the two lanes on different levels. The street tees out at Maltman Avenue, about a half-mile to the west of Sunset.
Our Descanso Drive sign is a replica of the “shotgun-style” signs which once stood along this unique street. This classic style, used from 1946 to 1967, is named for how the sign is contoured around the longer street name and the shorter block number on the line below it. The original signs were painted by hand in porcelain enamel, with white lettering in a block font on a blue background. Our Descanso Drive sign carries the a block number of 3400 W., signfying the intersection with Micheltorena Street, near Descanso’s midpoint.
Our Descanso Drive sign is printed right here in the US on heavy-duty. 14-gauge steel. It has a glossy, non-retroreflective finish much like the porcelain enamel of the originals. That makes it durable enough to withstand the elements outdoors, while looking great indoors, too. To make installation easy, pre-drilled mounting holes are included. We’ve made it available in the following sizes:
- 21 in. × 7 in. (scaled down for more economical display)
- 30 in. × 10 in. (the size of the original signs made by the City of Los Angeles)
