Description
Before the state government posted its own road signage in Southern California, it was the responsibility of the Auto Club of Southern California (ACSC). One example is this guide sign, which was posted along Main Street in El Segundo, approaching Imperial Highway. It lists the distances to Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Venice, and Redondo Beach. These towns are all well-known destinations along the southern shore of Santa Monica Bay.
The original of this sign is no longer posted, but we’ve brought it back to life for your enjoyment. Our replica is made to the exact standards ACSC used in the 1940s, toward the end of their time posting California signage. Every detail has been replicated from photos of the original signage, from the fonts used, to the layout. Even the spacing of the letters is just like the real thing! The ACSC logo appears at the bottom of the panel.
Our replica is flat printed on heavy 14-gauge steel. Its glossy, non-reflective finish accurately recreates that of the original porcelain. Like the real thing, it can stand up to the elements outdoors, while still looking great indoors. We have made this sign available in its original size of 40 in. × 30 in., as well as a number of smaller rescalings for easier indoor display.
