Description
Bunker Hill Avenue is a street in downtown Los Angeles. It, and the neighborhood surrounding it, was named after Bunker Hill, a hill that once separated downtown from the part of the city to the west. The area surrounding Bunker Hill Avenue has changed rather dramatically over the years. Initially, it was built up in the 1860s and 1870s with opulent Victorian homes. These attracted a number of wealthy residents, which made Bunker Hill quite the exclusive address. By the 1930s, however, many of the rich relocated to other parts of the city, and Bunker Hill fell into decline. By the 1950s it was declared blighted, and in the 1960s the city began demolishing pretty much the entire neighborhood. Even part of the hill itself was removed. Today, Bunker Hill, covered in gleaming skyscrapers, would be utterly unrecognizable to those who once called it home.
Step back in time to the days of the old Bunker Hill with our replica Bunker Hill Avenue street sign. It’s made in the style of the classic “shotgun”-style signs. The City of Los Angeles installed these porcelain signs between 1946 and 1967. The design is rather simple, with block text in white on a blue background. On the top line is the street name, with the block number displayed underneath. The sign panel is contoured to the shape of the text, creating the distinctive “shotgun” shape. Our replica includes the block number 300 South.
Our Bunker Hill Avenue street sign is flat printed on 14-gauge steel, right here in the USA. It has a glossy, non-reflective finish that is, for all practical purpose, identical to the of porcelain of the original. It’s just as weatherproof as the original, too, so feel free to install it anywhere. Choose from one of two sizes: the original 30 in. × 10 in. size, and a scaled-down 21 in. × 7 in. version. We’ve also made it available in one- and two-sided versions; the one-sided version can be printed facing either left or right. We’ve also included pre-drilled holes, to make installation easy. (We can make a sign like this for any street and block number in Los Angeles! Contact Jake now to get started on your custom order.)
