Description
US Route 129 is a famous road in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina. The section of road through the Deals Gap pass is called the “Tail of the Dragon” due to the winding path it takes. One survey says the highway has 318 curves in only 11 miles (18 km)! The highway’s curves are highly sought out by drivers of motorcycles, sports cars, and other highly maneuverable vehicles. From the mountains, the highway continues north, connecting the mountains to Knoxville, the largest city in east Tennessee.
Our Tennessee US Route 129 shield is a precise replica of those posted along the highway at its inception in 1934. The original block fonts used during that era lend the sign a bit of rugged Appalachian charm. This route marker makes a great gift for anyone who has proudly conquered the Tail of the Dragon! Originals of this style of sign often go for hundreds of dollars on the collector’s market. But that’s only when someone decides they’re ready to part with one, of course! Our replica lets you get the sign you want, when you want it, at just a fraction of the price.
Our Tennessee US Route 129 sign is flat printed on heavy 14-gauge steel, right here in the United States. It’s non-reflective, just like the signs were back in 1934. It’s weatherproof, too, so it will serve well for years to come, indoors or outdoors. And we’ve also included predrilled mounting holes to make installation easy as pie. We offer this sign in the following sizes:
- 12.375 in. × 12 in.
- 16.5 in. × 16 in. (the original size as used on the roads of Tennessee)
- 24.75 in. × 24 in.
- 37.125 in. × 36 in.
