Interstate 75 crosses East Tennessee from north to south. It enters southern Tennessee in the Chattanooga area. It then proceeds to the northeast, to a junction with Interstate 40, which it follows into Knoxville. Interstate 75 splits away from I-40 in Knoxville, charting a northwestern course. It climbs to the peak of Jellico Mountain, remaining on top of its ridge for several miles. It then lands on the Cumberland Plateau and passes out of the state and into Kentucky.
