Description

Before the mid-1950s, the state of California did not post street signs on its public highways. That task was performed by private automobile clubs; in the south half of the state the Automobile Club of Southern California took on that duty. This is an example of an ACSC mileage sign that would have appeared on historic US Route 66 one mile east of Claremont. Route 66 followed Foothill Boulevard from Claremont through Azusa, then Huntington Drive and Colorado Boulevard to Pasadena, where it transitioned onto the Arroyo Seco Parkway (later known as the Pasadena Freeway) toward downtown Los Angeles.

Our Claremont, Azusa, Pasadena, Los Angeles mileage sign lets you step back in time to the glory days of US 66 in California. It’s made to the standards ACSC was using from 1929 to the late 1940s. It makes an excellent display piece for a garage, bar, or man cave, and is a wonderful addition to any collection of early 20th Century transportation paraphernalia.

Our Claremont, Azusa, Pasadena, Los Angeles mileage sign is made of heavy 14-gauge steel. It has a non-reflective, high gloss finish, allowing it to serve you well, indoors or outdoors, for years to come. To make installation easier, the sign includes pre-drilled mounting holes. We’ve made it available in the following sizes:

  • 15 in. × 10 in.
  • 21 in. × 14 in.
  • 30 in. × 20 in.
  • 36 in. × 24 in.

I had this sign recreated to duplicate the original that I saw every day when I was young. The sign arrived and it is perfect! It is thick, heavy, and very hard to tell that it is not an original porcelain sign. My only regret is that I did not order the larger 30×20 size.
