California (USFS) Sierra National Forest Muir Pass sign

Description

Muir Pass is a mountain pass through the Sierra Nevada mountains, located between Mount Solomons and Mount Warlow. It has never been used for a vehicle highway; instead being crossed by the John Muir Trail and the Pacific Crest Trail. The pass has been protected in some form or fashion since the concept of land conservation was introduced in the United States. Initially, it was part of Sierra National Forest and overseen by the US Forest Service. Nowadays it is looked after by the National Park Service as part of Kings Canyon National Park.

Our Sierra National Forest Muir Pass sign is a replica of the sign that stood on Muir Pass during the days when it was administered by the Forest Service. It follows USFS standards dating from the turn of the 20th century, complete with the hand-lettered block text that was found on signage of the era. It includes the pass’s elevation, a truly impressive 12,059 feet (3,675 m), which is higher than the entirety of California’s state highway system. It makes a great gift or commemorative item for anyone who has experienced the beauty of Muir Pass!

Our Sierra National Forest Muir Pass sign is flat printed on heavy 14-gauge steel. It has a glossy, non-reflective finish of similar appearance and durability to the porcelain enamel used on the original sign. Just like the original, it can handle the elements of the great outdoors, even through a snowy Sierra winter.  Mounting holes are included to make installing it anywhere easy.
