Description
Interstate 395 is one of the principal highways of eastern Connecticut. It runs from Interstate 95 in East Lyme to the state line at Webster, Massachusetts, continuing on from there to the Massachusetts Turnpike in Auburn. The road has not always been called I-395; the section from I-95 to Killingly opened in 1958 as part of the Connecticut Turnpike, and was referred to under that name. North of Killingly, the road was Route 52. I-395 was established in 1983 after the cancellation of a planned Interstate between Hartford and Providence, in order to make up for the resulting loss of Interstate mileage. The tolls were abolished from I-395 in 1988.
