Description

Interstate 4 is the major highway connecting Tampa, Orlando, and Daytona Beach. It runs diagonally, southwest to northeast, across the center of the Florida peninsula, a distance of 132 miles (213 km). The highway never leaves Florida (which is fine, the system is interstate, not each individual highway). It was the lowest-numbered Interstate highway from the time of its construction in the late 1950s to 2013 (when Interstate 2 was commissioned).  It is one of only four single-digit Interstate highways, along with interstates 2, 5, and 8.
