Description

Trask Avenue is a street in Los Angeles’s Playa del Rey neighborhood. The residential street has two sections, both more or less paralleling to the coast. The northern section extends from Rees Street to Barbour Street. The other starts at Manchester Avenue and ends at Waterview Street and Trask Triangle Park. Originally, Trask Avenue continued past Waterview Street, into the Surfridge neighborhood. The City of Los Angeles condemned Surfridge in the mid-1960s, using its powers of eminent domain to expand the buffer zone around Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). It then closed Trask Avenue south of Waterview and demolished the homes along it.

Our Trask Avenue sign is a replica of those that once stood along this historic street. The sign is made in the classic Los Angeles “shotgun” style used between 1946 and 1967. These signs, painted by hand in porcelain enamel, featured white block-font lettering on a blue background. The road name appears in large lettering up top, with the block number beneath it in smaller text. Because the sign panel is cut in the shape of the two lines of text, it produces a distinct “shotgun” profile. Our Trask Avenue sign bears the a block number of 9200 S., the block number at the demolished intersection with Surfridge’s Jacquelin Street.

Our Trask Avenue sign is printed on 14-gauge steel, right here in the USA. Much like the porcelain originals, it has a glossy, non-reflective finish that can withstand the elements outdoors. Pre-drilled mounting holes make installation easy. It is available in the following sizes:

  • 21 in. × 7 in. (scaled down for more economical display)
  • 30 in. × 10 in. (the size of actual signs made by the City of Los Angeles)

And also these layout options:

  • One-sided, right facing
  • One-sided, left facing
  • Double-sided
