Description
The Holland Tunnel is a vehicular tunnel under the Hudson River, connecting Manhattan with Jersey City, New Jersey. One of two automobile tunnels under the river (the other being the Lincoln Tunnel), the Holland Tunnel carries traffic from Interstate 78 into New York. It was opened in 1927 as one of the world’s earliest major underwater automobile tunnels, and was named after its chief engineer, Clifford Milburn Holland. The tunnel consists of two separate tubes, one for each direction of traffic. It was the first tunnel in the world to be equipped with mechanical ventilation, and was the longest underwater vehicle tunnel in the world at the time of its opening. Nearly 100 years later, it remains an important route for commuters and commercial vehicles traveling between New Jersey and New York City.
Bring a piece of early Interstate highway history to your collection with our Holland Tunnel and New York City sign, faithfully recreated in the distinctive style of a 1961 New Jersey freeway guide sign for Interstate 78. Made to the exact federal 1961 standard that defined much of the early Interstate Highway System, this sign features an accurately rescaled layout, period-correct fonts, and precise proportions. We flat-print the design directly onto heavy 14-gauge steel in the United States, delivering a substantial, high-quality sign built for collectors who demand exceptional detail and craftsmanship.
Forget flimsy reproductions with incorrect fonts, layouts, dimensions, or cheap tin construction. This Holland Tunnel and New York City sign delivers the weight, appearance, and attention to detail that serious collectors expect. Look closely and you’ll appreciate just how precisely the original freeway-sign design has been recreated.
Designed for convenient display, the sign features a non-reflective finish that works beautifully indoors or outdoors. Pre-drilled mounting holes make installation easy, while the carefully scaled design captures the imposing look of a full-size highway sign in a much more manageable format. Choose from these sizes:
- 15 in. × 10 in.
- 21 in. × 14 in.
- 30 in. × 20 in.
- 36 in. × 24 in.
- 42 in. × 28 in.
- 45 in. × 30 in.
