Description
Fillmore Street is a north–south street on the north side of San Francisco. It’s named after Millard Fillmore, who was President of the United States at California statehood in 1850, and is part of a gaggle of streets named after pre-Civil-War politicians. Fillmore Street’s south end is at Duboce Avenue, east of Buena Vista Park. It heads north from there through the Lower Haight district, and forms the opposite side of the block that the Painted Ladies (the famous Victorian houses on Steiner Street) are on. Continuing north, it lends its name to the Fillmore District, a diverse neighborhood that was historically home to San Francisco’s jazz scene. From there, Fillmore Street traverses the wealthy Pacific Heights neighborhood, named as one of the most expensive neighborhoods in the United States. It then makes its way into the Marina District, where it ends at Marina Boulevard. In all, Fillmore Street clocks in at just under three miles long.
Our Fillmore Street sign is made to San Francisco’s 1965 specification for city street signs. This iconic style, with all-capitals black lettering in the standard FHWA Series fonts on a white background, was in active use until 2009. Many instances of the 1965 style remain in use all along Fillmore Street, however. Above the street name is the block number, in this case 1600, the intersection with Geary Boulevard, the location of The Fillmore, the historic and famous live music venue.
Our Fillmore Street sign is printed on heavy-duty 14-gauge steel. Its finish is glossy but non-reflective, allowing it to serve as an excellent home decor item. It’s also weatherproof enough to serve for years when installed outdoors. Pre-drilled mounting holes are included, making installation easy. We offer this sign in the following sizes:
- 21 in. × 7 in.
- 30 in. × 10 in.
- 36 in. × 12 in. (the actual size of signs found along Fillmore Street
We also offer the following layout options:
- Single-sided with right arrow
- Single-sided with left arrow
- Double-sided
