Before the concept of numbered highways had reached all corners of the United States, there was a highway in California called the Coast Route. As you might expect, it ran up the coast of California; these days, it’s known as U.S. Route 101. In these times, the government of California was not yet in the business of posting road signs. Instead, that was the responsibility of private auto clubs. The southern half of the state was the responsibility of the Automobile Club of Southern California. From about 1922 to 1928, they posted white and blue diamond-shaped signs on Southern California roads. One such sign, posted in north San Diego County along the Coast Route, pointed the way to La Jolla, Del Mar, and Oceanside in one direction, and Pacific Beach and San Diego in the other.

Our La Jolla, Del Mar, Oceanside, Pacific Beach, San Diego diamond sign is an exact replica of this classic ACSC diamond sign. It uses the classic block fonts, and includes the classic ACSC bell logo in the bottom point of the diamond. It is printed on heavy 14-gauge steel with great gloss, a close match to the look and feel of the original.
